E is for Elven Tree House

I did the first part of the drawing while sitting outside on my front porch in 70 degree sunshine. Not bad for Seattle in early April, and quite an appropriate drawing venue for the subject.  I was inspired by the sample elven tree home in Races of the Wild and decided to do my own take on the form.

The layout of the house is as follows:
  1. Front Porch
  2. Hallway
  3. Main Living/Dining Chamber
  4. Master Bedroom
  5. House Shrine/Meditation Room
  6. Guest Bedroom
  7. Guest Bedroom
  8. Kitchen
  9. Pantry
  10. Study/Library
I may have gone a bit overboard on this map. Drawing this map took me probably 2.5 hours start to finish (including importing and laying it out in Photoshop.) While I really enjoyed the process, I don't think I can sustain this level of detail throughout the A to Z Challenge.

  1. Umm. Can't even come up with a word! Fantastic comes to mind so I'll go with that. Each day I say, "This is awesome! How can he even get any better?" And every day I am in awe!

Was I gushing a bit? Sorry. Maps are one of my favorite parts about RPGs!

    1. oh boy, mine too. I often have to stop myself and say, "plan the game first. The players aren't playing the map!"

  4. Alright, this is a great concept for A to Z - what gamer can't use maps? In this case the label says "Elves" but I can see everything from Ewoks to the people of the Savage Land making a home here. I'll be keeping an eye on this.

    1. Seriously! That's a big reason why I did it! If nothing else, it gives me a supply of stock maps to use in my own game.

  8. Wait you had sunshine....I guess its ok, I'm on the other side of the state in Spokane. It is pouring rain presently but we had some wonderful sun earlier in the week. Like your elven tree house design - way cool. Will you actually build one?
I'm trying to do a digital painting to go with each of my posts this year. Its taking more time than I thought but I got through week one.

    Have a great A-Z

Have you sold your soul to the Devil? Quite an artistic leap from Lastholt Ice Caves. Great design and well executed. Love the Elevation. You are rocking those pens!

  13. Beautiful! I don't know a thing about any of this, but your maps are fantastic. What talent! Are you sure you shouldn't put some kind of (c) or watermark on them? Seems a shame not to protect your work.
